I have been m.i.a here cos I got a new baby.
This new baby has been keeping me crazy occupied (as all babies do) but I’m back to y’all now 🙂
So my last post was about this statistics course I’m taking in Uni this semester(Quantitative Research Methods).
We’re having the last class for the semester today, so we’re doing a recap of everything we’ve done.
* deep sigh*
I just read the course description for the first time today.
Sorry to bore you but it says: “This course is designed to teach budding sociologists the use of statistics as a tool for social science research. The focus will be on teaching students how to employ statistical reasoning& techniques to interpret and make informed decisions about empirical observations.”
I’m pleading with you not to put your children through this kind of torture someday.
This is how they refer to all 300 or so students taking this course because they know we’re all gonna end up as sociologists who do social science research eh? Okay.
That’s not even what bothers me.
It is what this course entails.
Now you know how I feel about math, and this isn’t even math oh!
Its some deep statistics (math’s grandparents) and I still don’t get why its compulsory for a young god to study this!
Yes I know I have no choice& no matter how much I complain I’m gonna write exams on it anyway.
But let me rant small…
Since I’m being taught how to employ statistical reasoning (whatever that means) I might as well talk about it.
I don’t even know where this post is headed (cos I’m still in the quanti class atm & someone behind me has decided to fill my nose with the smell from her shoes).
All I know is that this thing isn’t cool mehn….
Again I say, take your kids to some Uni where they can choose what they wanna study& would be allowed to study that which they choose.
Not this thing these Legon people do, forcing courses down your throat.
Some parents don’t get it when their kids don’t make good grades…
Maybe they should sit in one of these classes& they’d understand what it feels like to study and try your possible best to make a pass in a subject you have no interest in.
My class still hasn’t ended so I’m going back to pretending I’m listening to the lecturer.
Say a prayer for me…
