Going through a hard time?

Never would have made it…
Never could have made it without you…

Hello beautiful people!
I woke up yesterday with this song on my heart. Last month was such an emotional roller coaster for me. With stress from work and life in general, news of deaths, experiencing disappointments and having so many uncertainties but still having to keep it together, my emotions were really all over the place.

I would have lost my mind, I would have gave up but you were right there…
Have you ever gone through anything that made you feel as if you were going to lose your mind?
I felt that way several times last month. There was so much unrest in my mind. My sanity was at stake and so many times I would say, “I don’t know how I’m still doing this.”

Now here comes my favourite line of the song and I listen to this song a lot, but yesterday this part really stood out to me:
I would have lost it all but now I see how you were there for me…
This part really touched me!
Can we be honest here for a minute believers? How many of us feel like we’re all by ourselves when we’re going through a really rough time? I’m talking about a very tight situation which looks really hopeless. How many of us feel like God is silent through our tests? I know I do.
I can praise, I can worship, I can pray and even though I know I haven’t been forsaken, I still feel like I’m doing it alone.
But oh, once I get through that storm, that’s when I have the “now I see” moment.

Ha! I feel like doing a little dance here.

IMG_2476
Now I see how you were there for me: That was how I was still doing it! When I wondered how I was still sane, how I could still smile, how I could still get work done, it was simply because He was there for me the whole time.
This brings tears to my eyes because if I was running on my own strength, I would have messed up big time. I would have lost it all. I would have been telling a different story today.
I guess sometimes we expect fireworks and big bangs to know He is with us but I’ve learned that in the midst of all the chaos, confusion and what appears to be silence on His part, He is right there with us.
When I look back over what He brought me through, I realise I made it because I had you to hold on to…
Honestly, when I look back at the situation I’ve just gone through, I can say for a fact that I didn’t do that on my own. There were many times when I felt so weak, when I felt like I couldn’t get through another day but the day would come and I’ll make it through. How? Because I had Him to hold on to.
I’m sharing this today because I know there’s someone somewhere going through a similar situation. I know there’s someone who has been waiting for something for so long that it’s beginning to look impossible. I know that you’re probably at your breaking point and you don’t want to hear another “just stay strong” sermon so I just want to assure you that:
1.You’re not alone. No matter how your situation looks or how you feel, you are not alone. You have me, someone who has been there and totally understands but more importantly, you have God who will never leave nor forsake you. If you can’t talk to anyone, talk or write to Him. (I express myself better in writing so when my words fail me, I write to God)
2.This too shall pass. No matter how long it seems to be taking, even though it looks like for you alone there’s no light at the end of the tunnel, the truth is that there is. Even though it looks like it has been stormy forever, the sun will come out. There has never been a day without the night, neither has it ever been nighttime for 24 hours. It will pass for you to look back thank God that you made it. I pray that when it passes, you too will encourage someone going through the same thing.

Love always,

Mrs A.

This Year vrs The Next

IMG_4631

Hello beautiful people!

I am inclined to believe this quote when I look back on my life a year ago.

As you may have read from my 2017, last year was quite rough on me and reflecting on last year around this time, I can testify to the many changes that have taken place in my life.

Last year around this time, I had come home excited from a job interview I attended which I knew went really well.

27-01-2017. Before the interview

I had been assured of the job and I was excited! I had already started imagining what working there would be like, only to find out the day after that those imaginations were never going to be a reality.

disappointed

Trust me, I was beyond disappointed. It was a new year and I thought I was going to ‘get my life’ by finding work because I had been at home for some time after I left my last job but nope, things were not going to happen as I thought they would.

I was so distraught and I kept asking God why. I thought I was ready for something new. I thought it was perfect timing. In fact, I thought it was an answered prayer because I had been praying about work and in which direction to head with regards to that, then this seemingly good offer came in. What I didn’t know or couldn’t see at the time was that something better was being prepared for me, but I had to wait for it.

Can we talk about the waiting period for a minute? You know that in-between time when everything seems to be at a standstill? It can get really frustrating when you feel like something needs to happen at a particular time but it seems to be taking forever, and it’s even worse when you can’t talk about it. If you find yourself in this period, please stay in touch with someone you can trust who can also keep you encouraged. I know how hard it can be to be going through this and not be able to share with anyone, that’s why I always avail myself for anyone in such a situation to contact me.

Thinking about it now, I realize that job would not have been the best fit for me at the time. I was a newlywed and to be frank, the environment in which I would have been working would not have been suitable for me. Also, my shifts would have totally clashed with husbae’s and that would have definitely caused a strain on our new marriage.

About five months later, I started working at the one that was for me and at the time it happened, I knew that rather was perfect timing, not the one I was expecting at the beginning of the year.

As hard as the in-between time is, please don’t spend that time moping like I did for way longer than I should have. There’s so much to read/study online for free, you can volunteer at a non-profit organization, exercise, learn a new skill, figure out what your passion is and generally improve on yourself whilst you wait. Even though I didn’t know exactly what was going to come next, I knew that I would never have that much free time on my hands again so I had to do something worthwhile with the time.

Can I encourage you today? I can assure you that whatever you’re currently worrying, thinking or stressing about, next year by this time or probably even before then, it wouldn’t be a bother to you anymore. I pray that at the right time you will receive whatever you’re expecting, hoping and praying for, and waiting on.

Can you cast your mind back to last year around this time? Do you remember the things you were worried about? Are you still worried about those things? Let me know in the comments!

Love always,

Mrs. A

Happy New Year!

Hello beautiful people!

I’m a little late to the party but Happy New Year to you all!

D474FC32-E3B0-4794-80D7-B73E4DF27820

As the year begins, I want you to ask yourself this simple question: “What is my why?”
Let this question guide your every move this year.

•Why do you have that dream in your heart?
•Why do you want to achieve those goals?
•Why do you want a lifestyle change?
•Why do you want to do the things that you want to do?

Your why is the very thing that motivates you to get up every morning and work a little harder to get a little better.

Knowing your “why” will help you stay committed to your dream.

Sometimes we are too focused on letting other people co-sign our dream, the dream that has been put in our hearts that we drag our feet on chasing it because the people we expect to support us are not being supportive. I’ll tell you one thing, most of your biggest fans/supporters would be people you don’t know personally.

In 2018, I pray we all chase our dreams relentlessly even if no one else believes in it.

Love always,

Mrs. A

Protect your energy

Hello beautiful people!
As the month brings itself to an end, I’ve spent a lot of time doing some reflections. I like to do this monthly, to kind of assess myself to see if I’m on the right track and also to refocus if I realize I’m slipping up somewhere. I have been able to outline the things I should be doing (and doing more of), what I should be focusing my energy on and what I should not be engaging in.
I believe every individual is on a mission on this earth however there are some people who are unnecessary distractions from the purpose for which we are here. Sometimes, it is the seemingly nice and unsuspecting people who are the culprits. They may or may not know that they are distracting you from your purpose but it is up to you to distinguish between who is right for you and who is not. You may be a lover of people like me but unfortunately, not everyone can go with us on this journey we are on.

IMG_3194
Last month, I met with a few of my sister friends over pizza (our fav) and at a point, we started talking about our goals, visions and dreams. We are all currently engaged in very different things but even with the diversity, I find our ability to support, motivate and encourage one another so, so beautiful. In that moment, I was really excited for our future, I felt so much at peace and I knew that I indeed have the best of friends. We may not always meet up or talk as we all have such busy lives now but whenever we do, we just pick it up from where we left off.
You have to be able to critically examine yourself and the people in your life; check who is adding value and worth to your life, and who is not. Check who is cheering you on and who is draining your energy.

pastedImageCan I talk about human leeches for a minute?
Have you ever come across someone who seems to take so much from you but doesn’t give you that much in return?
Take, take, take it all, but you never give’Bruno Mars, Grenade.
This person could be taking your time, money, joy, peace or even your energy. You know, the kind of people who leave you drained after speaking to them and no, I’m not referring to people who come and confide in you concerning a particular challenge. I’m talking about those who always seem to have numerous problems that they like to dump on you regardless of how you may be feeling at the given time. They are always feeling blue and the clouds are always dark in their lives. (I’m sure you’re thinking of someone now)
Please understand that as much as You are not for everybody, not everyone is for you. The more you adopt your true self, the more likeminded people you’ll draw toward you and in the same way, the people who don’t fit will be expelled from your life. Always remember that not everyone can go on this wonderful, crazy life journey that you’re on so don’t hold on to dead weight.

Protect your energy and be sure to do what’s best for you, even if no one understands that.

Day 17: Couple Goals

Hello beautiful people!

This term ‘couple goals’ has been the in thing for some time now. It seems every couple that goes viral on the internet is ‘goals’ and this leads to severe disappointment when said couple breaks up (been there 😒).

After a certain popular YouTube couple had a very messy breakup, I was jolted back to reality; these people are regular human beings just like you and I. They are not super-humans and what we see on the internet is just a fraction of their lives that they choose to show us. Nobody’s relationship is as perfect as it looks on camera.

I think everyone should strive to be ‘couple goals’. Sometimes, we focus so much on other people’s lives that we tend to overlook ours. In paying so much attention to another person’s relationship/marriage, we lose sight of how unique and special ours is and start wishing to be in the other couples’ shoes. (Please don’t be that person)

Your relationship/marriage is really what you make it, no one is going to make it fun and exciting for you. Yeah it’s cool to admire other couples but don’t be so hung up on them. If there’s something they’re doing that’s you like, try to adopt and modify it to suit your relationship/marriage. Please don’t go blaming your partner for not being as ‘cool’ as the YouTube couple you’ve been watching, introduce whatever new idea you’ve got to your partner with love.

Always remember that your marriage/relationship can be whatever you want it to be. It’s up to you really, and you too can be ‘goals’.

Day 14: Made you Smile today

Hello beautiful people!

I’m so excited to bring you today’s post which was so beautifully written by one of my dearest sister-friends, Ama Kokuenua Nunoo. I was so touched by this and I believe you will be blessed too.

Enjoy!

” No! No! NO! You kept telling yourself each time. Is it that you are not beautiful? Do you feel inadequate? Why do you allow yourself to sink so low when you know you are better than this! You are SMART, BEAUTIFUL, CARING, LOVING, NURTURING, EMPATHETIC and GOD FEARING. FAMILY means the world to you, because they got you 100%. Oh yes, you feel like strangling them once in a while, with the constant teasing, bossiness, and somewhat too much interest in what you do. BUT you know it is because they LOVE you.

So why, why do you allow normal desires of the flesh and wishful thinking steal your joy? Tell me why? You know you are capable of everything you set your mind to not because you hear it all the time or have read it elsewhere because you are a product of that saying. You ventured into a territory you knew little about, almost run away in the beginning, doubted your intelligence and your abilities, now see, see how you shine, in the brightest way possible with a grateful heart towards your maker, because without HIM you will not have survived a day in this journey.
Some relationships have been severed because not everyone buys into your vision. Your growth is scary. So they try to knock you down, or discourage you or make you feel guilty about your little strides, and sometimes they get you! You do feel sorry for your progress or sometimes wonder if you have done things differently to have them with you, but my dear beautiful, intelligent, strong young woman, listen you owe no one an explanation for your progress.

It does get lonely, really lonely sometimes, but deep down you know, that you are fine, that you will be fine. You were used to the attention but my dear, it was all for the wrong reasons. They were no good for you. You made some mistakes, and let some amazing people walk out of your life, it’s alright you know. At least you realise your mistake and it is a lesson well learnt. How can you forget the amazing friendships that have helped you through some of the toughest days. The little ANGELS God handpicked for you. The love you have for them is beyond description and their support means the world to you.

Sweetheart, just be mindful of yourself, don’t lose your humanity, give back to society and be grateful to God always for your journey. ”

Day 10: Favorite Book

Hello beautiful people!

Today’s challenge is a hard one because as an avid reader, I simply cannot choose a favorite book. However, I’m going to share with you one of my favorites from Joyce Meyer.

IMG_4230
This book literally changed my life and my mindset

I bought this book way back in 2014 and till date, I still find something new in it. Trust me, it doesn’t get old.

I’m sure we’ve all heard about the impact our words have in our lives and the lives of others but this book really opened my eyes to exactly what I had been doing to myself with the kind of things I often said about myself. It has been a long road to recovery; from saying negative things about & to myself, to speaking life and positivity into my life and controlling my mind so that I stay on track with positive vibes only.

Here are a few of my favorite parts from the book:

Thanks for this great book Joyce Meyer!

Day 4: Someone you Love

Hello beautiful people!

So an obvious choice for today’s post would have been my HusBae cos we all know how much I adore him but let me tell you guys about the love I have for this person.

IMG_4112
My mommy ❤️ Photo credit: Sorce Photography

I don’t think my words will do the love I have for this woman justice. I have seen her bend over backwards just so that I can be okay. She’s so selfless and would readily give up her comfort for mine. There is nothing I need that she won’t provide, that’s if she’s got it & if she hasn’t, she’ll find a way to get it for me. Anything to make me okay, really.

Seeing as I’m her only girl (I’ve got 2 brothers), many people call me a mummy’s girl and I’ve always denied it but thinking of it, it is actually true. I’m a proper mummy’s girl and I forever will be. She may not have all the luxuries in the world to give me but she has always given me the most important thing; her love. She covers me with her love so much that even when I have nothing, I feel like I have everything.

Did I mention that I love when she gives me compliments? She always tells me how good I’m looking when I’m all dressed up & gives me the most ‘fans’. If no one ever told me I was beautiful, I wouldn’t mind at all because I’ve heard it enough from her to last me a lifetime yet when I’m dressed up and she doesn’t say it, I ask, “Won’t you tell me I’m looking good?!” (lol 🙈)

My fondest memory of her is the time I first opened my eyes after regaining consciousness in a hospital a few years ago and she was right there outside the window, just watching me. I had been in a life threatening situation which probably almost gave her a panic attack. She should have been mad at me but all I saw in her eyes were love and a lot of anxiety. I will forever cherish that memory because if I never knew she loved me, that moment proved she had more than just love for me.

Have I mentioned how much she annoys me? Jeez! It seems she knows exactly what to do to annoy me 🙄🙄🙄 & she can piss me off so much that I give her the silent treatment but 3 minutes later we’ll be talking and laughing like nothing happened. She even annoyed me this evening before I wrote this 🤣 But that never changes the way I feel about her 😍❤️

She has been a great mom to me and I’ll forever love & cherish her and every single memory made, good or bad. She caught me in an Internet cafe once when I was a kid and I was supposed to be home; boy, she proper slapped & dragged me out of there and as painful as it was then, that memory is just for laughs now.

On my side of the world, we didn’t grow up saying “I love you” to our parents every day so it’s awkward for me to just come out and say it to her, however, I do make sure that my actions speak louder than my words ever will.

IMG_4111
Isn’t it amazing how at one point in my life I was just chilling inside her belly?

Tell me about one person you love guys, I love to hear from you!

Mrs. A

My Blessing in Disguise

Hello beautiful people!

I’d like to share with you all what I call my blessing in disguise. Now even though this is normally described as something that at first seems bad, but later turns out to be beneficial, I won’t call it ‘bad’ in my case. It was rather difficult and exhausting because it really took a lot for me to keep it going.

So, I would describe myself as an extroverted introvert; I can be very sociable and friendly but I also would very much love to hurry home and be by myself.

introvert problems
introvert problems

I really love people and I love interacting with them but I also love being in my own space. I used to joke about how I should have been named ‘Silence’ after my grandma because like her, I’m very quiet and reserved by nature (I know some people will beg to differ but this is the gospel). Sometimes I even tell hubs to be quiet just so I can enjoy a few minutes of silence  IMG_2501 but thank God for an understanding hubby! If you know my husband, then you know how much of a talkative he is! Oh my goodness, I thought my mom could talk but this wonderful man is right up there with her! It was quite exhausting for me when we first met (imagine an introvert having to talk to an extrovert ALL the time) and I always felt drained after our conversations because like I mentioned in this post, Out of the Sheets & into the Streets  all we did during our dating period was talk, talk and talk. It’s actually a great thing to be able to carry a conversation for so long and I admire him for that, but then it was overwhelming for the introverted part of me. I would always say to him in Twi (our local dialect): “Wo p3 kasa ooo!” meaning he loves talking and though naturally I would have preferred to stay quiet, I began learning to talk too and we starting having really great conversations for hours on end!

You’re probably wondering where I’m going with this but let me quickly share what we call my husband’s dictionary definition of ‘blessing in disguise’: If you say that something is a blessing in disguise, you mean that it causes problems and difficulties at first but later you realize that it was the best thing that could have happened. – Collins Dictionary

In the beginning of our relationship, talking to Mr A was difficult for me. I loved his company, I loved being on the phone to him but he dominated most of our conversations. Now, we can’t seem to figure out who likes talking more (I still believe it’s him hehe) and I always say to him that if we had a talk show, we would have to hold up signs to indicate whose turn it is to talk.

Beloved, all that talking was my blessing in disguise. I used to see it as exhausting and draining but little did I know that it was training me for my future. Everything I’ve ever wanted to be involves extensive talking and how would I succeed at it if I don’t want to talk? Currently, what I’m involved in pays you to talk or rather, you talk and get paid and every day, I realize Mr A bombarding me with nonstop talk is actually one of the best things that could have happened because had it not been for that, I really don’t know how I could do what I’m doing now. I won’t call myself a talkative, I’m still an extroverted introvert, who is learning to talk more but I am better off now than I was before. I definitely won’t name myself ‘Silence’ now lol although I still love me some peace and quiet!

Today, take a look around you. Is there anything that annoys or irritates you? Is there something you’re doing that feels like a chore, which overwhelms and exhausts you? Please don’t be too quick to dismiss it or write it off, it could be your blessing in disguise! Also, don’t look down on anybody who seems to be a ‘nobody’ today and don’t be too quick to cut people off because you’ll never know who will be a blessing to you tomorrow.

Has there been anything in your life that turned out to be a blessing in disguise? Kindly share it with me in the comment box, I’d love to read all about it!

Always remember how much you are loved and cherished by God.

Love always,

Mrs A.

Delays?

Hello beautiful people!

This topic has been on my heart the whole of this week because of something amazing that happened to me. I know I write a lot about trusting God and waiting on Him for something that seems to be taking long but that is because it is something I’ve personally had to deal with a lot in my life and I also see many people facing it, so why not encourage them as I encourage myself too?

I’ve written about how certain things seem to happen for us sooner than we expect and of course that always makes us happy, so we look up with excitement and say “God I know that was you!” but on the other hand when things seem to delay, how do we react? What do we say? What do we think of God then? Like I wrote here God’s Time Vrs Our Time, there are so many things I’ve had to wait for in my life that had already happened for everyone around me. I always seemed to ‘carry last’ and would often cry out to God and as usual, ask

IMG_2343

I didn’t know of the principle of times and seasons then so I just expected things to happen when I thought they had to, so if there were any delays, I would think I was not doing something right and start wondering if God was forgetting about me. It sounds ridiculous just typing it out now because really, HOW can God forget about me, the apple of His eye?

God can never forget about you!

I’d like to share this really popular scripture that talks about times and seasons. Ecclesiastes 3:1 (KJV): ‘To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.’ (ERV): ‘There is a right time for everything, and everything on earth will happen at the right time.’

When I finally understood this, I stopped fretting, took a huge sigh of relief and I rested! I pray right now that by the end of this post, you my dear reader, will get this insight and find that rest too. I’m going to share with you two things that really put my mind to ease and enabled me enter this rest:

  1. The way I see God/my knowledge of God– Growing up, I thought I knew God. I mean I knew there was God but I didn’t know him intimately. I knew him as an entity who was very far away, who sat high up in the clouds to watch and record my every move, who could get angry at me and punish me when I did certain things, and reward me only when I did some other specific things. Thank God I have grown out of that! My view of God changed when I began to see him as MY father. Psalm 68:5 talks about God being a father to the fatherless and because my dad is late, I have personally taken God as MY own father. My relationship with him did a 180 degree turn when I began to relate to him as my dad instead of the distant God I knew. When my dad was alive, he loved and cared for me, and provided all my needs. Yes he did discipline me and kept me in check, but he never threw me out, threatened me or deliberately denied me of my needs even if I did something wrong, and this was my father who was just a man. If a man who can lie/change gave me good things, why wouldn’t God give me even better? (Matthew 7: 9-11) I am simply unable to see God as anything short of a loving father. This is someone who is not a human being, he has no flaws, weaknesses or shortcomings; he is perfect. Just imagine the kind of love that would flow from this perfect source, obviously it would supersede an earthly father’s. This brings me to my point. So this loving father of ours created and owns everything in this world, do you really think he would deny you of any good thing that you ask him for? Are you wondering why it looks as if some of your requests are being denied? I’ll address that in #2.

  1. My understanding of times & seasons– I have now come to understand fully that there is indeed a time for everything. Ecclesiastes 3: 2-8 throws more light on the different seasons and times in life. I love how verse 1 says there is a right time for everything and everything on earth will happen at the right time. That means there are also times that are ‘wrong’ for some things to happen; like a baby can’t be born just after a month of being pregnant and a baby won’t walk right after being born. Sometimes, certain things you ask for or pray about will not happen but that doesn’t mean God is bad, or wicked or that he has forgotten about you, it just means it is not the right time yet! Life is full of times & seasons and as long as there is day and night, rain and sun, things will always change. I read something in the book of John and I was so amazed by it that I’ve read it over and over again. On 2 different occasions (John 7:30 & 8:20) the people couldn’t arrest Jesus because what? The right time for him had not yet come. The repetition of this spoke so deeply to me and made me realize that nothing will happen until it is the right/set time for it to. That really helped me to relax and stop being so hard on myself. I mean even Jesus’ arrest which would lead to his crucifixion had an appointed time. A few chapters ahead when Jesus was praying, he mentioned that the time/hour had come. Then after praying, he was arrested. Understanding this principle helps you do away with worrying about the when’s and how’s, and makes you confident that even though nothing might be happening for you currently, it is definitely going to happen at the right time and in the right season.
IMG_2292
Love this!

I have always heard that just because you cannot see what God is doing behind the scenes doesn’t mean that He isn’t working on your behalf and I believe this is so true! I’ve had times when it looked like there was nothing going on for me, I’ve felt like my life was at a standstill while everyone else was moving forward and if you’re in this place right now let me just tell you that your big break is coming! Yes nothing seems to be working out physically but it doesn’t mean that things aren’t working out spiritually. I have tried to rush out of my dry seasons but going through them taught me patience, endurance and perseverance.

I know how difficult it can be to believe that anything good is going to come out of your situation, trust me, I’ve been there but your heavenly father can see the full picture and believe me when I say it’s a very beautiful one. These are not just words I’m typing flippantly, I mean every bit of it because I have personally experienced it. Waiting for that right time/big break can be really hard, you may be tempted to lose faith or give up hope, you may begin to have doubts but the wonderful thing about God is that He’s so faithful and he never fails. Keep holding on, keep believing in him and always praise him in advance!

Do keep in mind that your daddy God loves you so much and would never withhold any good thing from you.

Love always,

Mrs. A
